COMBUSTION CONTROL IN BIOMASS AND THERMAL OIL STEAM BOILERS

Biomass is the fuel generally used in water-tube and fire-tube boilers for the generation of superheated steam or in thermal oil boilers for the generation of heat for different applications.

In this type of boiler, the generation of either high levels of CO2 or unburned and black smoke is common as a result of combustion with excess or deficiency of combustion air. For this reason, continuous control of the combustion atmosphere and correct regulation and supervision of both the combustion air intake (primary, secondary and tertiary) and the fuel intake are essential.

The continuous change in working conditions and fuel characteristics (ambient humidity, product morphology, atmospheric temperature and pressure, etc.) means that this type of installations usually have low energy performance.

Continuous control of O2% in the boiler hearth can mean savings of up to 15% in biomass consumption.
